Fields that can be altered AND have effect on the M3188/M3688:

123

Enable real time clock. Please notice that RTC will be reset after removing battery

185

Edit quick menu. Now you can edit the quick menu after holding the OK button longer than 2 seconds while being present in the quick menu

113

Enables the all famous engineering menu

108

Copy sim contents

276

Set message alert tone, getting rid of that dull message sound ;-)

224

Greeting tone. When switching on the phone an annoying tone is generated. You can shut it off with this setting.

208

If set you have an extra item on the quick menu, which can be edited when option 185 is set. The extra item maps to key "0". On the m3688 three extra items are present, however only one can be edited and reached.

193

Is present in the menus (set ringer 2 tone), but I do not have a clue what it is doing

272

I noticed that some M3188s this option is not set. If set it will be possible to select people from your address book to send SMS.

177

Setting this option to zero will display the menu name first before entering the menu itself. Default set to 1 for the M3188. You should set this option to 0 if you want to use the shortcuts to standard menu entries.
For the non graphical types (e.g. M3188) this option is reset, making the menus more easy to understand. For more experienced users it will become annoying. So if you want to save a keystroke, reset this option (consequently you cannot use the shortcuts to standard menu entries)

087

This option will enable the phone’s phonebook. An extra 100 phone number locations will be available linked to the phone i.s.o. the SIM card.

278

On the L7089 this option will enable the editable ring tones. If set on the M-series the backlight funtion will be disabled.

009

Add “last ten cals” also to the call related features menu.

008

If you have a subscription for two phone lines, set this option so you can select either line 1 or 2. Has no advantage if you have a (normal) one line subscription.

203 204 205 206

If option 203 is enabled, you will be able to select the band you want to use (either 900MHz ==>204 or 1800MHz ==>205. If option 206 is set also, the menu item will also appear in the quickaccess menu. This option is extremely handy if you want to stick to 900MHz or 1800MHz. This way O2 (1800MHz) users can force the phone to log-on on the Vodafone network (900MHz).

The fields displayed above are tested on both the M3188 and M3688. They are not tested on the M3288. However since the M3288 is almost identical to the M3188 you can be 99% certain they also will work on this type..

On the M3688 you can change the startup graphic. Click here and please read the doc files included in the medit package.

Options that are tested but do NOT work or do not have any effect on the M3188/M3688:
029, 038, 105, 106, 110-112, 255, 256, 131, 084 and 085

One option can be switched-on but can (will?) crash the phone:
234, the quick menu edit will now be part of the normal menus (i.e. NOT pressing OK for more that 2 seconds). After selecting items the phone will crash, and you have to switch it off and on again

Caution, do not try to set 207 and 211 on the M3188 / M3288 / M3688 / M3788 (probably all models of the M-series); This will result in a NON responding phone, something that cannot be undone!!! THIS IS NOT A JOKE; I can tell you, I killed an M3688 that way. I got also an email from a visitor who had killed an M3288. Got a confirmation on the M3788 also.

One last remark; when enabling 273 an extra item (memory monitor) will appear on the eng menu. However it does not work (or at least I do not understand how it works), It will however not crash the phone.
