Impressions and conclusions:- The similarities with the much older CH388 are overwhelming.
- Compared to other phones in the field this 1999 phone looks a little bit old-fashioned and is rather big.
- Ericsson is using many Application Specific ICs, mainly from Ericsson Microelectronics (at the moment I do not know if ICs made by other manufacturers can be marked with the Ericsson logo, although I have a suspicion).
- The baseband design is based on the ARM7TDMI.
- Just a nice phone with many features.
- A vibra function is missing
- NO (good!) zebra strips are used to connect display microphone and keyboard (unlike the CH388) to the PCB.
- A backup battery is available for the RTC.
- The ring volume is limited.
- The loudspeaker output level is too limited and spurious noise is produced.
- The A1018s has a bad keyboard, you never know whether a key is pressed or not.
